Johan A. Hutauruk, MD adalah seorang konsultan senior di bidang oftalmologi yang memiliki subspesialisasi pada kornea, katarak, dan bedah refraktif. Saat ini beliau menjabat sebagai President Director JEC Eye Hospitals & Clinics, jaringan layanan kesehatan mata terkemuka dengan 16 lokasi di seluruh Indonesia yang melayani lebih dari 550.000 kunjungan pasien setiap tahunnya.

Dr. Hutauruk memegang berbagai posisi penting dalam komunitas oftalmologi, termasuk Vice President Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS), President Indonesian Cornea Society (INACORS), serta Vice President Indonesian Eye Hospitals Association (ARSAMI). Sebelumnya, beliau menjabat sebagai President Indonesian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (INASCRS) dan selama 11 tahun menjadi Vice President Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (PERDAMI). Beliau juga aktif dalam pendidikan ilmiah melalui berbagai kegiatan seperti operasi langsung (live surgery), kursus, dan kuliah ilmiah, serta telah lama berkontribusi sebagai anggota komite pada Indonesian Ophthalmologist Annual Meeting.

Beliau pernah menjabat sebagai Director of Cataract, Cornea, and Refractive Surgery Service di Departemen Ilmu Kesehatan Mata, Universitas Indonesia. Atas kontribusinya dalam menyelenggarakan lebih dari 10.000 operasi katarak gratis setiap tahun sejak 2002, beliau menerima Distinguished Service Award dari Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) pada World Ophthalmology Congress tahun 2008 di Hong Kong. Beliau juga pernah menjabat sebagai Head of the Medical Division di Bank Mata Indonesia, Kirana Eye Center, RS Cipto Mangunkusumo (2007–2012) dan kini menjadi anggota dewan pengawas Lions Eye Bank Jakarta.

Dr. Hutauruk telah mempelopori berbagai inovasi bedah di Indonesia dengan memperkenalkan teknik-teknik seperti Endothelial Keratoplasty, Implantable Contact Lens (ICL), Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), Boston Keratoprosthesis, Corneal Tattoo, Accommodative IOL, Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking, Femtosecond Cataract Surgery (FLACS), Callisto™ Suite, LASIK Xtra, ReLEx SMILE, Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), dan Contoura Vision. Sebagai pelatih dalam program INASCRS dan JEC Fellowship, beliau telah membimbing banyak dokter mata dari Indonesia maupun luar negeri sejak tahun 2002.

Atas kontribusinya di tingkat regional, beliau memperoleh APAO Achievement Award (2016, Taipei), Sidharta Ilyas Award (2019, PERDAMI), serta telah menjadi anggota Editorial Board Ophthalmologica Indonesia sejak 2010. Selama 12 tahun berturut-turut, beliau juga menjabat sebagai anggota Advisory Board pada PERDAMI Annual Meeting. Penghargaan terbaru diterima pada tahun 2024 dari Asia Cornea Society untuk menyampaikan Asia Cornea Foundation Lecture.

Secara khusus, Dr. Hutauruk adalah satu-satunya dokter mata Indonesia yang pernah menjabat sebagai Council Member APACRS (2012–2025) dan Board of Council Member Asia Cornea Society (2015–2025). Beliau aktif terlibat dalam berbagai organisasi profesi, termasuk IDI, PERDAMI, INASCRS, INATS, ASCRS, ESCRS, dan ACS. Di tingkat internasional, beliau kerap diundang untuk memberikan kuliah ilmiah serta kursus didaktik. Beliau juga berkontribusi sebagai anggota Editorial Board EyeWorld Asia-Pacific (APACRS), sebuah publikasi yang menjangkau lebih dari 30.000 dokter mata di lebih dari 45 negara.
