83% of human information is obtained through the eye. Having good eyesight can help to achieve dreams and goals. However, this is not always owned by everyone, considering that there are some individuals who experience refractive errors (myopia, astigmatism). Most of us rely on glasses or contact lenses to see better. However, dependence on these optical aids can interfere with daily activities, especially for those who have certain activities or areas of work that require to move dynamically without glasses.
Laser Vision Correction Center
JEC, as a pioneer in corrective surgery for refractive errors, has added the latest technology, SMILE (Refractive Lenticule Extraction - Small Incision Lenticule Extraction).
SMILE is the latest technique to eliminate refractive errors (myopia, astigmatism) without making flaps. This minimizes the risk of flap displacementand relatively safe. This procedure is carried out in only one laser process and automatically makes the SMILE action process relatively faster, which can be completed in just seconds. SMILE provides comfort after the procedure without pain.
SMILE JEC can be an alternative for those of you who want to see clearly without the need of glasses or contact lenses anymore. Patient safety and comfort is a priority for JEC.
SMILE Terms and Candidate
- Age 18 and over
- Both eyes must be healthy
- Combination of Myopia and Astigmatism ranging from -0.5 diopters to -10 diopters
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Remove soft contact lenses for 14 or hard contact lenses for 30 consecutive days.
Who is suitable for the SMILE surgery?
The ReLEx SMILE action is perfect for individuals who have high mobility, are active, and dynamic, and are involved in the world of contact sports such as boxing, diving, taekwondo, and others. With the flapless procedure on SMILE, the patient is not vulnerable to eye trauma.
What's the difference between SMILE and LASIK?
LASIK has two stages in eliminating refractive errors. First, by making a flap in the Stroma layer of the cornea using a femtosecond laser. Second, after the flap is opened, stromal tissue ablation is performed according to the size of the refractive error with an excimer laser, then the flap is closed.
SMILE, the femtosecond laser works directly in the stroma layer of the cornea to form lenticules according to the size of the refractive error. Then the laser beam makes a small incision of about 2-4mm for the way to remove the lenticule.
What are the side effects of SMILE action?
Basically, every operation has risks. However, laser vision correction procedures are generally safe and have low risks. Discuss with the ophthalmologist at JEC to find out more about the benefits of the laser vision correction procedure for you. JEC's Laser Vision Correction Center has experience treating refractive eye error (myopia, astigmatism) for more than 150,000 patients since 1992.
How long the vision will be normal for the SMILE procedure?
The healing process can be different for each individual. In most people, visual acuity will be normal & stable in 1-3 days after the procedure. After the SMILE action, you can drive a vehicle, work & do physical activities as usual without wearing glasses or contact lenses.
