Built on a 2,000 m² site with a total floor area of 7,000 m², the new facility is expected to welcome around 100,000 patient visits in 2022.

Tackling eye health challenges in Central Java
Central Java continues to face serious eye health issues. According to the Ministry of Health’s InfoDATIN: Vision Disorder Situation Report (2018), more than 41% of cataract patients in the province are unaware that they suffer from the disease or that it can actually be treated. The same report, which includes the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB 2014–2016), puts the prevalence of blindness among people aged 50 and above in Central Java at 2.7%, just below the national average of 3.0%.
“Opening RS Mata JEC-Candi @ Semarang reflects our commitment to bringing modern eye care with the widest range of subspecialty services closer to the people of Semarang and Central Java. With easier access and comprehensive treatment options, we hope to encourage more people to get regular eye check-ups so that vision problems and preventable blindness can be detected and treated earlier. In turn, this will help preserve both quality of life and productivity,” said Dr. Sri Inakawati, MSi. Med., Sp.M(K), President Director of RS Mata JEC-Candi @ Semarang.
World-class facilities and services
The hospital is equipped with the latest diagnostic technology and modern facilities on par with JEC’s three eye hospitals in Jakarta. Patients can access a full range of services, including:
- Laser Vision Correction (LASIK , SMILE & SMILE Pro)
- Cataract & Cornea Surgery
- Glaucoma Service
- Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus (POS)
- Oculoplasty
- Contact Lens & Dry Eye Service
- Neuro-Ophthalmology

“RS Mata JEC-Candi @ Semarang is now the largest one-stop eye care center in Semarang and Central Java. Patients can get everything they need in one place — from initial examination, surgery, to recovery — with a wide range of options, from basic to advanced, supported by skilled professionals and international-standard facilities,” added DR. Dr. Fifin Luthfia Rahmi, MS, SpM(K), Director of PT JEC Candi Sejahtera.
Highly qualified professionals
The hospital brings together 22 ophthalmologists, including 16 subspecialists recognized as national consultants, supported by 71 medical and non-medical staff. RS Mata JEC-Candi @ Semarang also uses a secure electronic medical record (e-MR) system, allowing patients to access their records online and continue treatment seamlessly at any JEC branch.
JEC’s hospitals and clinics follow international quality standards set by the ASEAN Association of Eye Hospitals (AAEH) and the World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH), both of which JEC helped establish. Located on Jl. Pamularsih Raya, Semarang Barat, the new hospital offers comfortable inpatient rooms, a 24-hour emergency unit, and is supported by internists, general practitioners, psychologists, and nutritionists.
“Since 1984, JEC has worked to improve the vision and quality of life of Indonesians. With JEC-Candi @ Semarang — managed to international standards and offering the most complete subspecialty services in Central Java — we are confident that people will now have easier access to advanced, reliable eye care without needing to go abroad,” said Dr. Johan A. Hutauruk, SpM(K), President Director of JEC Eye Hospitals & Clinics.
Safety first during the pandemic
Even as COVID-19 cases rise due to the Omicron variant, JEC continues to prioritize patient safety. At all branches, including JEC-Candi @ Semarang, strict health protocols are enforced: screening through the PeduliLindungi app, temperature checks, frequent disinfection of facilities, provision of masks and hand sanitizers, and protective shields in consultation rooms.
Strengthening JEC’s presence across Indonesia
RS Mata JEC-Candi @ Semarang complements the existing Klinik Utama Mata JEC-Candi @ Semarang, originally established as Candi Eye Center in 2012 and later integrated into the JEC network in 2017. With this addition, JEC now operates 13 branches across Indonesia, including JEC-Anwari @ Purwokerto, JEC-Java @ Surabaya, JEC-Orbita @ Makassar, and JEC-Bali @ Denpasar, along with its hospitals and clinics in Greater Jakarta.
The hospital’s opening was also marked by free cataract surgeries for 15–20 underprivileged patients, carried out under strict health protocols. In addition, webinars will be organized for healthcare professionals and the public to raise awareness about eye health.
